If you worked in an office prior to the pandemic, chances are you walked away one day in early 2020 with the hope of returning in a few of weeks or, at the most, a couple of months. However, over 18 months later, you may still have not returned — and, given how many businesses are shifting to a remote-first culture, you may not for some time longer (or, maybe, ever).

While many of us have had time to acclimatize to working from home, the uncertainty of the previous year may have prompted you to delay investing in items that help transform our mostly comfort-oriented homes into effective professional workstations. To assist in that quest, we surveyed a group of professionals who frequently worked from home before to COVID-19 and those who have subsequently set up adequate workspaces in their houses to determine the tasks they used to do so efficiently. Then we looked through our archives for more items that work-from-home employees informed us they use on a daily basis to do their tasks.

While working from home almost surely needs a computer, wireless network, and modem, I’ll focus on all the other essential items you may require for work from home purposes, and these work from essentilas are like comfortable desks, mats, seats and chairs, and monitors to less visible essential items that will help you to remain productive day after day while you work from home. Continue reading for 68 tips that will not only increase your productivity and enjoyment while working from home, but will also help you avoid burnout.

The first work from home essential item I’m going to look on is a desk. If you want to be more productive while you work from home daily, my advice to you is to set up a little office section in your home for work purposes. The first thing you want to have is a comfortable desk to rest you laptop, computer and other tools on.

You can go for a simple computer desk:

Computer Desk with 3 Drawers and USB Port, Wood Frame Home Office Desk with Wide Desktop and Hutch Shelf

Whether you are working on your next awesome novel or just setting up your home office, computer desks are a stylish stage. Featuring a clean-lined design, wood grain details, and metallic cup pulls on its drawers, this piece brimming with traditional taste. Built-in USB and charger hub keeps your devices charged and connected.

This is similar to the computer desk I currently have at home except that it does not have a charging port. So I’m seriously looking to change my desk soon.

  • Large Desktop Surface and Hutch Shelf
  • USB and Charger Port
  • Computer Desk with Spacious Storage Space
  • Sturdy and Durable Construction
  • Easy to Assembly and Customer Service

This is also another desk I found which I think is pretty awesome. I tend to go for desk with drawers because atleast you can put away some tools that you may not be using. It is away to help declutter your work space. I hate a cluttered area.

Ergonomic Chairs

The next work from home essential you need is an ergonomic chair and not just any chair. I am all for ergonomic items because they can help with preventing certain help problems which I know many of us wish we did not have. So you would want to go for an ergonomic chair that will give your back support and help with maintaining your posture. Take it from somone that has some serious back pain, if you do not have one, GET YOURSELF ONE ! Below are my selections:

Ergonomic Computer Desk Chair with Armrest for Home

Pneumatic controls make it easier to raise or lower the seat. This chair can support up to 250 lbs of weight.

The PU casters provide great mobility, suitable for hard floors, carpet, and more, without noise during swiveling and they won’t scratch the surface of the floor.

  • Height adjustable
  • 360 degree swivel
  • Comfortable Lumbar Support
  • Ergonomic Armrests
  • Breathable Back
  • Multi-function Mechanism

This is absolutely my favourite becaus it also comes with a cushion to support your back as well.

Ergonomic Keyboards

If you are someone that types alot everyday, like me, then I highly recommend that you get yourself an ergonomic keyboard if you don’t have one. I developed carpal tunnel syndrome in both of my wrists in 2017 and now I have to use an ergonomic keyboardto give my wrist support while I type. You certainly dont want to feel what carpal tunnel syndrome is (very painful). At times I can barely use my hands or fingers. So below are my two ergonomic keyboard picks. The first one is what I currently have:

Microsoft B2M-00012 Natural Ergo Keyboard 4000

It has a built-in pad for you to rest your wrists on while type. So you’re hands are in a straight and resting position instead of bent. There is no pressure on my wrist whenever I’m using this keyboard.

This is my other choice.

Logitech ERGO K860 Wireless Ergonomic Keyboard

The pillowed wrist rest places your arms just above the keyboard, offering 54% more wrist support while preventing strain and reducing wrist bending by 25%.

  • Pillowed Wrist Rest
  • Perfect Stroke Keys
  • Adjustable Palm Lift

The next work from home essential item that I consider a must have is an ergonomic mouse. I mentioned above that I have developed carpal tunnel syndrome in my wrists as such I have to be using an ergonomic keyboard. However, I also have to use an ergonomic mouse as well. A mouse that is hard to press and not deigned a particular way only puts pressure on your hands. So it’s always best to use one to protect your hand in the long run. Below are my choices. The first one is what I use but the wired one.

Wireless 2.4 GHz Ergonomic Vertical Optical Mouse

This mouse is travel-friendly due to its small size and light weight. Features sophisticated rubber layout design for a pleasant gripping and easy-reach buttons.

  • Wireless mouse
  • Ergonomic design
  • Plug and play feature

This is my secon choice.

SANWA 2.4G Wireless Ergonomic Trackball Mouse

Are you tired of your wrists hurting after using your computer? To be exact, your traditional mouse. Now it is the time to invest in an Ergonomic Trackball Mouse! A good choice for people who work at length at the computer.

Desk Pads

Desk padss are to protect your computer desk and they also help beautify your work space. These are two of my favourites. I had to add to my cart the moment I saw it, lol.

Knodel Desk Mat, Mouse Pad, Desk Pad, Waterproof Desk Mat for Desktop

  • Made of durable PU leather material to protect your desk
  • Made of premium PU leather material with durable construction
  • Multifunctional desk pad
  • Water resistant and heat resistant material

This is my second choice.

This desk pad creates a defined and organized workspace while protecting the desk’s surface from scratches.

  • Extended Large Mouse Pad Size
  • Non-slip Rubber Base
  • Ultra-smooth Surface
  • Water Resistant Coating
  • Durable and Comfortable Material

Seat Cushions/Back Support

If you sit for long hours working from home then you certainly need a seat cushion to support your back along with your ergonomic chair. Back pains are the worst pains to have throughout the day especially at night. Trust me ! Below are my choices.

Everlasting Comfort Lumbar Support Pillow for Office Chair Back

  • Breathable Mesh Cover
  • Premium Memory Foam
  • Machine Washable

This is my other pick.

Lumbar Support Pillow for Office Chair

  • Perfect Lumbar support pillow for all kinds of office chair / car
  • Memory foam Support for Back and Lumbar & Suitable for All People
  • Orthopedic Backrest with adjustable elastic straps

Laptop Support

While the majority of us spend 2020 cooped up in our houses, there are now more options for working from other locations, such as a local coffee shop. For anything that converts any flat surface into a standing desk. This is where a laptop support comes in handy. These are my picks:

Soundance Laptop Stand

  • Suit for any laptop 10 to 15.6 inches
  • Sturdy and portable, made from alloy
  • Ergonomic design
  • Cooling better and keep desktop organized
  • Detachable and simple installation

Laptop Stand for Desk

Ergonomicall designed to help you practise appropriate posture as well as relieve arm, neck, shoulder and arm pain caused by inappropriate postures.

Desk Lamp

Another work from home essential that you need is a desk lamp. A desk lamp contributes to task lighting by illuminating the work area. Whether you’re typing or reading fine text, you want to be able to see comfortably and clearly. That is where a desk light enters the picture. I seriously need this lamp !

LED Desk Lamp with Wireless Charger

  • Multifunctional LED Desk Lamp Office Lamp with 5V2A Adapter to wall
  • 25 brightess choices
  • Powerfull charging
  • 30/60 minutes Auto off timer
  • No flicker lighting

If part of your job or side hustle includes talking to clients, like me, then you need a comfortable noise cancelling headset. Wireless is so much better than cords. They make your work area less crowded. Below is my pick:

Anker Soundcore Life Q20 Hybrid Active Noise Cancelling Headphones

  • Reduce Ambient Noises By Up to 90%
  • 100% Stronger Bass
  • 40-Hour Playtime

Coffee Maker

I could not leave off this coffee maker off the list. For coffee lovers like myself, you know this defintely a work from home essential. I love, LOVE coffee. Nothing beats a nice cup of coffee before you start working or even while you work. Below is my pick:

Hamilton Beach Programmable Coffee Maker

The Hamilton Beach FrontFill 12 Cup Programmable Coffee Maker is easy to fill from the front with a FrontFill water reservoir and swing-open brew basket for coffee grounds. Now you can fill the water tank from the front of the machine, instead of the back.

  • Front access for easy filling
  • Swing out brew basket easier to fill and keep clean
  • Programmable clock set your brew time and strength in advance
  • Automatic pause & serve with no mess pour
  • Bold, regular & 1 to 4 cup brewing options

So there you have it, 10 work from home essentials you need in 2022. If you don’t get anything on this list, atleast ensure that you have an ergonomic chair, keyboard, mouse and back support as they are very important to support your health.

If there is anything else you think that shoul be on the list, feel free to leave it in the comment section.

Hi, I am Alecia Hall, the creater of “Brea-kin Barriers” and I am from St. Mary Jamaica. I have been a Customer Service Representative at Digicel Jamaica for over 4 years and started working as a Virtual Assistant on Fiverr in February 2020.

I have gained customers from the US, UK, Hong Kong, Barbados & my very own, Jamaica. Some of my tasks as a Virtual Assistant includes proofreading & editing, data entry, research, transcribing, handling emails, and more.

I started this website “Brea-kin Barriers” to offer several benefical services to my readers which includes:

Inspirational quotes and reflections
How to earn additional income online
My Virtual Assistant Services
An online Course: Your Breakthrough To Growth & Success: Shattering all negative barriers
And a step by step guide on How To Start a Blog

The term breaking barriers is something that I am very passionate about and I love to see persons rising to the surface, “shattering the glass ceiling” as they start to grow until they have reached success. I am one known for always encouraging others and is reliable when it comes on to motivation.

My favourite quote that I live by is “The race is not for the swift but for those who can endure to the end”.

The fastest one does not always win the race and the battle does not necessarily mean it’s for the strong. After all, I believe that sometimes you have to through a dark tunnel and sometimes life has to throw you lots of lemons before you can get grapes to make wine.
